After more than 20 years of service in the Lamar County Library System, our much-loved Assistant Director Terry Lajaunie passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020. Terry fought very hard these past three months, but he was unable to overcome the injuries from his wreck on September 14. We are glad to know that he was surrounded by the love of his wife and family at the end. We are all devastated by this loss and will miss him tremendously.
Terry was born to Richard Peter Lajaunie and Dianne (Anderson) Lajaunie on December 11, 1970, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Donna; his mother Dianne; his brothers Richard and Chad (Misty); as well as nieces Haley and Jade, nephew Aiden, and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly. Terry is preceded in death by his father, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Terry was raised in Mandeville, Louisiana. He graduated from Mandeville High School in 1989 and then moved to Mississippi, where he attended The University of Southern Mississippi (USM). While in school he worked for Cook Library at USM, and once he graduated as Master of Library and Information Sciences, Terry began his professional career with the Lamar County Library System (headquartered in Purvis, Mississippi). There, he served as Head of Technical Services, Systems Librarian, and finally Assistant Director. He was very well-loved, admired, and respected by his own library system and the entire library community across the state of Mississippi, whom Terry considered to be family. His commitment to librarianship made him a force to be reckoned with. His loss will be felt by many and will affect us all for a long time to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family has generously asked that donations be made to our library system. We are in the process of setting up a memorial fund and will add those details here soon.
In the meantime, donations can always be made in his name to the Lamar County Library System by indicating that on a check and mailing it to:
